Hi there! My name is April!
It’s actually pretty funny that I chose Photography as my career. Every single personality test I have done alludes to me being an introvert – usually around 70% introvert. And being a family photographer, I have to meet and interact with all kinds of people. I grew up fairly shy and reserved. Somewhere along the line, I realized it’s a pretty lonely place and decided to assert myself. And contrary to what people think of introverts, I absolutely love meeting and connecting with people. In fact, most of my closest friends will probably describe me as crazy and outgoing. I love humour and making people laugh! I may just talk your ear off like we’re best friends.
I’m also a Graphic Designer. I started my career interning at a Toronto-based post-production studio. I was scared as sh*t, based on the fact that I had never done anything related to visual effects or graphic animation. I had always pictured myself in Print. However, I’m a determined little bugger and put on the mindset that I could learn anything and excel at anything I wanted to. And I wanted to do this. I met some awesome people that really helped and inspired me. Eventually, I got a full-time gig out of it and had the chance to work on some pretty awesome jobs in TV, commercial and film.
Then a few years later, I had a baby….
Location-wise and financially, my husband and I decided it would be best not to go back to work at the moment. And I had an itch. I was armed with a post-grad background in Project Management that I had not used to its fullest. So, why not be my own boss… manage my own projects… start an EMPIRE! Ok, getting carried away! But I did want to be my own boss – not to mention, working in yoga pants every single day seemed comfortably appealing.
And that’s where I am today! I’m a freelance Graphic Designer and a Photographer. I’ve been hashtag blessed (lol… I really hate “#blessed”, but I like being ironic) with such a positive response to my business since deciding to pursue this full-time. I’ve met some fantastic people and am excited to continue meeting more!
I also have a very unhealthy obsession with Teen Dramas and Young Adult Fiction novels. Like, ABC Family (now known as Freeform, like wtf?) is my jam! I think it might be because growing up I was obsessed with Basketball… so, apart from 90210, I didn’t have a good dose of TV drama. Until I had a boyfriend (who is now my husband) who made me watch Sex in the City re-runs and Laguna Beach, even though he is a huge sports guy. And while Sex in the City didn’t tickle my fancy much, LAGUNA BEACH – like OMG. And so began my descent into the world of Teen Drama… so… much… drama… so… many… feels.
Anyway, I hope I haven’t scared you away. Perhaps you have fallen in love with me… winks. In any case, thanks for reading and I hope to meet (or re-meet) you one day!
